Business Meeting (Jim Akers presiding) President Jim Akers welcomed three guests to the meeting: Davis Loop, Mary Romaine, and Betty Gambill. Toastmaster Colin Murphy introduced a motion for the club to fund a CTM Name Badge or lapel pin for any member who achieves the CTM level and wants either item. After a second and discussion, the motion carried. Toastmaster David J. Rafanowicz introduced and discussed a new report to be added to the weekly distribution. The report lists active members and shows their assignments for the following weeks, providing an “at-a-glance” planning tool and making it easier to find a fill-in from among unassigned members. An accompany web page will also feature the same information. Visit the page <<here>> Toastmaster Roy Kenski made a motion to show support for the new City of Jacksonville Toastmasters Club by making our old timing lights available to that club since we recently acquired a new light tower. The motion was duly seconded, discussed, and carried by unanimous voice vote. Miscellaneous Guest Comments Davis Loop – attending local law school and wants to improve presentation skills. Found our club through the Internet. Excellent web site. Club does a good job. Betty Gambill – moving to Jacksonville from Tennessee and had been working on a CTM with a club there. Wants to get her CTM and will be joining our club. Found us through the Internet. Mary Romaine – wants to develop speaking skills for her profession. Friends told her about our club. Joke Meister – Colin Murphy (The Electric Blanket, a.k.a. Power Humor ) A man went to his local Wal-Mart to purchase an electric blanket for his wife. He knew little about electric blankets, but found a helpful salesman. The salesman explained that he had three models: a very efficient 10 BTU blanket for $100, a 50 BTU model for $50, and a 100 BTU model for $10. “Look,” said the customer, “I don’t understand anything about BTU’s. All I know is that I need something to cover a B-U-T as big as a T-U-B.” ▲ Announcements President Akers recognized the accomplishments of Nandu Shah and Don Lemcool in achieving their ATM and CTM respectively. Club Treasurer Roy Kenski reminded the club that semi-annual dues are due by next meeting. VP Education & Training Danny Pritchard reminded the club that the fourth speaker slot will be filled upon request and added two new volunteers to the speaking schedule (including guest Betty Gambill, who will be making application for membership after the meeting.) Toastmaster David J. Rafanowicz reminded members of the Division level Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contests to be held next Saturday at noon <here> and significant news that the District Fall Conference will be held in Jacksonville October 25-27 <<here>> For those who asked about keeping up on the pontifications of “Stumpy,” who was introduced in today’s Icebreaker speech, David’s web site is www.righthisway.net.
