Humorous Speech & Evaluation Contests Record Attendance! Toast of Jax shattered attendance records with 32 attendees at its annual Humorous Speech & Evaluation Contest meeting. 24 members and eight guests were regaled by five members who delivered top-notch humorous speeches and six members who had an opportunity to evaluate a Test Speech delivered by Area Governor Ray Benson. Suffice it to say that the judges had their work cut out for them in selecting the best! Business Meeting (Danny Pritchard presiding) VP Education & Training Danny Pritchard announced that delivery of the club’s new Toast of Jax banner is in the works. Pritchard also announced upcoming Area and Division level contests. Area 37 contests will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 6 at the Southeast Branch Public Library Auditorium. Click <here> for details Contest Meeting Contest Master John Roberts, DTM, opened with an entertaining commentary on the “Tater People,” including spectators, commentators, dictators, agitators, hesitators, imitators and sweet taters. Humorous Speech Contest Chief Judge Jeannie Hardwick read the contest rules for the Humorous Speech contest before intoning the traditional, “let the contest begin.” Graeme Matthews – To Be a Yank for a Day (Adventures of a Young Man’s Mythical Journey as a Yank) David J. Rafanowicz – Lawyers are Really Fun (Easy Targets in a Popular National Sport) Colin Murphy – Secrets of Closing Sales That You Probably Never Heard (Peddling Books Door-to-Door in Holler’ Country) Roy Kenski – Measuring Time (From a New York Second to an Epochal Moment) (2nd Place) Jim Akers – I Lost, I Scared (Adventures of a Helicopter Pilot in Unfamiliar Territory) (1st Place) Evaluation Contest Chief Judge – Jeannie Hardwick read the contest rules for the Evaluation contest before intoning the traditional, “let the contest begin.” Test Speaker – Area Governor Ray Benson deliver a 5-7 minute inspirational/motivational speech titled: Lessons From Winning Athletes.
