Business Meeting (Jim Akers presiding)

President Jim Akers opened with a story on the importance of good communications. He recounted a tale of two hunters in the woods. One dropped over from an apparent heart attack and the other immediately called the 911 emergency number on his cell phone. He explained in a rather hysterical manner that his friend keeled over and probably died.  Trying to ease his tension, the dispatcher took control. “Hold on now,” she said, the first thing we need to do is make sure that your friend is actually dead.”  “Hold on a minute,” the hunter said, just before she heard three shotgun blasts. “Ok, he’s for sure dead,” the hunter said when he came back on the line; “What now?”

VP Education & Training Danny Pritchard distributed a tentative speech schedule for the full year, with a caveat that it was subject to change based upon new members and other factors.

President Akers reminded the group about the upcoming Humorous Speech and Evaluations contests scheduled for the August 24 meeting and pointed out that the logo had been attached to the lectern.

Toastmaster Milo Holt reported on a telephone call with Honorary member Dave Jackson, who is doing OK and would appreciate hearing from his friends. He can be reached at davejackson@toastofjax.org.

A young lady got into a terrible car accident. Her face was burned terribly. The doctors couldn’t use any skin on her body to graft onto her face for reconstructive surgery. As a result her husband offered the skin off his butt for the surgery. She had the surgery and was as beautiful after as she was before the surgery.

One night she and her husband were watching TV when she broke down crying. ”What’s the matter?” her husband asked.

She said “I can’t believe you did this for me.”

Her husband hugged her and replied, “Don’t worry about it, I love you, and I’d do anything for you.”

“But how will I ever repay you?” she asked

With which he replied, “You don’t need to repay me, you wouldn’t believe the satisfaction I get every time I see your Mom kiss you on the cheek.”

The meeting was adjourned with a flourish at 9:02 a.m.

Another great meeting and a good time was had by all!
