Business Meeting (George Oehl presiding) A sign-up sheet for the Division Level Table Topics and International Speech Contests – to be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 26 at the Ramada Inn – was circulated. Thus far, nine members and three guests had signed up. Beverly Farnell provided an update on the Youth Leadership Program, reporting that several participants did an excellent job in presenting their Ice Breaker speeches at the last session. An announcement was made that the Club’s By-laws call for a Nominating Committee to be appointed two weeks prior to the first meeting in May (at which time a vote will be held) to nominate Club officers for the next term. Immediate Past President Roy Kenski was appointed to head the committee and to select its other members. Anyone interested in serving as a Club Officer next term should contact Committee Chairman Roy Kenski. In other announcements, the club was advised that there would be no meeting May 25 due to the Memorial Day weekend and that information on May’s District Conference in Tampa was available at the head table. Discussion was held concerning the possibility of scheduling Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking or Dramatic Reading contests during May or June. Absent a clear motion, John Roberts was appointed Chairman of a committee to explore the matter and further discussion was tabled. Regular Club Meeting Toastmaster – John Roberts Word of the Day – Wisenheimer noun 1: Smart Alec 2: Wise guy 3: an obnoxiously conceited and self-assertive person with pretensions to smartness or cleverness Ribbon to Roy Kenski for best use. Table Topics – Millie Tannen (The only things certain are death and taxes)
Note: During Table Topics, Millie mentioned that yesterday had been her birthday and the group broke into a spontaneous rendition of Happy Birthday to You. (The group will not quit their day jobs anytime soon.) Speakers
Evalumaster – Chris Spears
Attendance – 22 members – 1 Guest (Jeanie Hardwick) Miscellaneous Guest Jeanie Hardwick of Lillian Bradley Toastmasters gave a favorable review of the meeting and our Club. Lectern protocol was briefly reviewed – Never leave the lectern vacant. The leaving speaker always passes behind the arriving speaker Joke of the Day delivered by Steve Lazar – “What was the name of that flower with thorns on its stem?” Milo Holt weighted in with a thought of the day. And a good time was had by all! |
