Business Meeting (George Oehl presiding)

John Roberts announced that Dramatic Reading and Extemporaneous Speech contests have been scheduled for the June 22 meeting. These are Club level contests and do not progress beyond Club level.

Milo Holt announced that he has a trophy from a similar prior contest and suggested that trophies for “club only” contests be “traveling trophies,” i.e. with the winner taking possession until the next contest.

President George Oehl welcomed new member Monica Harrell to the Club. Monica is a returning member welcomed by all.

Miscellaneous

During the meeting, the group joined in a chorus of “Happy Birthday to You” to commemorate the birthday of member Lisa Gibson and win the Word of the Day ribbon for Milo.

Graeme Matthews suggested that limitations be set to award the Word of the Day ribbon only to those who use it in the normal course of the meeting. In recognition of Toastmaster Milo Holt’s unique ability to use the Word creatively at any opportunity, the measure was voted down.

Joke of the Day – delivered by Danny Pritchard – A man took his dog to the veterinarian and was told the dog had already died. The man asked for another opinion, whereupon the doctor had, in succession, a Siamese cat and a Labrador Retriever confirm the dog’s condition. Satisfied that his dog had truly passed to the hereafter, the man was astounded when the vet told him the bill was $650. “$650,” the man exclaimed, “for what?” The vet, in a clinical tone, explained, “That’s $50 for the office visit and $600 for the Cat scan and Lab work.”

There will be no meeting next week due to the Memorial Day Holiday.

Congratulations to Graeme on achieving his CTM (someone order the man a gold name tag) and Happy Birthday to Lisa.

Another great meeting and a good time was had by all!
