Business Meeting (George Oehl presiding)

President Oehl recognized two special attendees: guest and returning former member Doug Spence, and long-time member Graeme Matthews, who returned to the club yesterday after a long hiatus required to teach a Saturday morning college chemistry class.

Roy Kenski, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, reported that the committee had met and was in the process of putting together a slate of candidates for next week’s vote. He reviewed the responsibilities of each office and requested that members interested in serving contact him.

John Roberts reported on his efforts with the Florida Times Union, which now has a regular listing for Toast of Jax Toastmasters, including the new club name and all details correctly listed.

George Oehl commented that our club’s contestants in the Table Topics and International Speech Contests came in first place, but that the judges were unaware of it. He also expressed for the large club turnout.

Miscellaneous

Guest Doug Spence, a former club member, commented on how things such as counting of ahs remain as a lingering part of a Toastmasters consciousness and continue to effect his life, and thanked Milo Holt for inviting him to visit.

Milo Holt, in commenting on Jim Domenico’s speech, announced the it was likely the Vikings who brought the tin necessary to make bronze and mentioned an upcoming Viking event on his calendar.

Jim Akers waxed eloquent on how the Division level contests caused him to reflect upon the value of our own Club and gave him insight into the “and to have fun doing it” phrase appended to our Club’s mission statement.

George Oehl reiterated the obligation noted at the bottom of the meeting schedule, i.e., “If you are on the schedule and cannot attend, it is your responsibility to find a replacement and notify the Toastmaster,” and the how meeting that commitment helped meetings run smoothly.

George Oehl recognized the continued success of the Youth Leadership Program under Program Coordinator Beverly Farnell and mentioned that the club may receive a banner ribbon for its community service work.

Another great meeting and a good time was had by all!
