JFK 40th Anniversary Theme

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the assassination pf President John F. Kennedy, the club hosted a special theme meeting.

Four speakers each discussed some aspect of the assassination. Richard Welty provided a historic backdrop of events that occurred before the assassination, especially those that may have been relevant to the assassination. Gail Antoine discussed the assassination and its immediate aftermath. Grant McManus reviewed some of the ensuing investigations and their controversial findings. Ulrich Leinhase talked about a few of the many lingering questions that still remain after forty long years.

Table Topics, headed by Toastmaster Kevin Corbett, included that infamous question: “Where were you when you heard the news?”

Business Meeting

Danny Pritchard presiding

Toastmaster David Rafanowicz presented a “Viking of the Year” award to Toastmaster Milo Holt. The award, the first and perhaps last of its type, consisted of a framed 8 x 10 photograph of Milo wearing his Viking horns and delivering a speech at last week’s meeting. (See the November 15, 2003 issue of Member’s News & Notes for the photo.)

Toastmaster Steve Lazar recognized Toastmaster Grant McManus for an article in today’s Florida Times Union. Grant’s 450-word article on the esoteric topic of koi includes two photographs taken by him at the 17th annual Koi Show. The show was hosted by the North Florida Koi Club at the World Golf Village this year. Click <here> to read Grant’s article.

A man who had been stranded on a desert island for ten years woke up one morning and noticed an object on the horizon. Could it be a ship coming to rescue him? The object kept coming closer. It became apparent that it was not a ship, that it was not a boat nor was it a raft. Suddenly out of the water came a beautiful woman in scuba gear.

She strolled up to the man standing on the beach and stopped in front of him. The beautiful woman asked the man, "When was the last time you had a cigarette?" The man stuttered, "It has been ten years!" She unzipped the left pocket on her wet suit, pulled out a fresh pack of cigarettes, and gave them to the man.

When he was finished smoking a cigarette, the woman then asked him, "When was the last time you had a shot of bourbon?" He once again stuttered, "It has been ten years!" The beautiful woman unzipped a left-side pocket of her wet suit and pulled out a flask of bourbon. She gave the man the flask, and he proceeded to drink it empty.

The woman then slowly unzipped the top of her wet suit, working her way down she asked the man, "And when was the last time you played around?"

The man was full of joy and asked the beautiful woman, "My gosh! Do you have a set of golf clubs in there?"
