Business Meeting

Jim Akers presiding

President Jim Akers introduced guest Rebecca Furman. Rebecca’s father had recommended Toastmasters to her when she was a teenager and she’s recently been involved in activities that she feels may benefit from Toastmasters experience.

There being no old business, no new business and no committee reports, President Akers introduced Toastmaster Jackie Pease to lead the meeting.

Rebecca Furman – Truly enjoyed the meeting. Work midnight shift as a law enforcement officer. The meeting time fits my schedule. Will be coming back and will be joining.

After dying a grisly death in an Afghanistan cave, Osama bin Laden made his way to the Pearly Gates. There, he was greeted by founding father George Washington.

"How dare you attack the nation I helped conceive!" yelled Washington, slapping Osama squarely in the face.

Patrick Henry came up from behind. "You wanted to end America's liberty, so they gave you death!" Henry punched Osama in the nose.

James Madison came next and said, "This is why I allowed the government to provide for the common defense!" He took a sledge hammer and whacked Osama's knees.

Osama was subjected to similar beatings from John Randolph, James Monroe, and 65 other people who had the same love for liberty. As Osama writhed on the ground in pain, Thomas Jefferson hurled him back toward the gate where he was to be judged.

As Osama awaited his journey to a final very hot destination, he screamed, "This is not what I was promised!"

An angel soothingly replied, "I told you there would be 72 Virginians waiting for you here. What did you think I said?"

Announcements

Ron Johnson attested to the success of Toastmasters by announcing his new radio show, "Marketing and Growing Small Businesses", to be broadcast Saturdays at 2:00 PM on WKOV AM 690, starting May 31.

David Rafanowicz recognized President Jim Akers for achieving President's Distinguished Club (the highest level attainable in Toastmaster International’s Distinguished Club Program). Under Jim’s capable leadership, the club has attainted the required nine-of-ten goals. But Jim also plans to have the 10th goal completed before the end of his term even though the club has already reached the highest level.

Mile Holt announced that the wife of former long-term member Keith Hall has been recognized locally as Artist of the Year and that her work will be featured in an art show this weekend.

Attendance   19 members and 1 guest

Presiding Officer Jim Akers adjourned the meeting with a decidedly Presidential flourish at approximately 9:12 a.m.

Another great meeting and a good time was had by all!
