Business Meeting (Jim Akers presiding)

To an MP3/CD rendition of Ruffles and Flourishes, played by the USAF Band, Toastmaster David J. Rafanowicz marched to the lectern to present the new Toast of Jax banner in grand style to Club President Jim Akers. Akers ceremoniously passed it to Sergeant -at-Arms Richard Welty for prominent display symmetrical to the club’s ribbon-laden banner.

President Akers reminded the membership of the Fall District 49 Conference to be held in Jacksonville next weekend and noted that Toastmasters Danny Pritchard and Beverly Farnell had volunteered to carry the club banners at an opening ceremony.

Paradigm Shift Committee Chairman David J. Rafanowicz reported out committee recommendations to continue a 4-speaker, 4-evaluator format, keep the new meeting room arrangement, and recognize the official ending time as 9:15 a.m. A motion to adopt the recommendations was made and seconded. The matter was put to a vote and passed.

President Jim Akers relayed the contents of an e-mail from member Dave Jackson, who had suggested a Hall of Fame section on the Club website. Based on Jackson’s recommendation, Akers appointed a committee to consist ing of Jackie Pease (Chair), Richard Welty, Ulrich Leinhase, Milo Holt, David Rafanowicz and Jim Akers to explore the idea.

Shortly after President Bush took office, an elderly man who’d been sitting on a park bench near the White House approached a U. S. Marine standing guard, and told him he’d like to go in and meet with President Clinton. The Marine looked at the man and said, "Sir, Mr. Clinton is no longer president and no longer resides here." The old man nodded, said, "Okay," and walked away.

Two hours later, the man approached the Marine and asked to see President Clinton. The Marine again responded, "Sir, Mr. Clinton is no longer president and no longer resides here." The man thanked him and again walked away.

After two more hours had passed, the man approached the Marine and asked to see President Clinton. The Marine, understandably agitated at that point, looked at the man and said, "Sir, this is the third time I’ve told you that Mr. Clinton is no longer President and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?" The old man looked at the Marine and said, "Oh, I understand. I just enjoy hearing it."
